Who is Larry Householder?

Larry Householder was born on June 6, 1959. He is an American politician who serves as a state representative for the 72nd district of Ohio and as a spokesman for the Ohio House of Representatives.

He is a member of the Republican Party. Its district includes the counties of Coshocton and Perry, and about half of Licking County. Householder represented the same district from 1997 to 2004, also as spokesman from 2001 to 2004. In 2016 he was re-elected to the statehouse and on January 7, 2019 again selected as spokesman.

Larry Householder Childhood and career

Householder was born in Zanesville, Ohio and grew up in Junction City, Ohio, where he worked on the family farm. He then attended Ohio University and received a degree in political science. He is married and has five children.

Householder ran an insurance agency and served as a Perry County Commissioner before attempting higher office. In 1996, he ran for state representation in the 78th district of Ohio and challenged incumbent Democrat Mary Abel from Athens. The head of household defeated Abel with 55.03% of the vote. He was re-elected three times.

In 1998, Householder was elected as the deputy majority whip. In 2001, he was elected Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, the highest house in the House of Representatives.

He served as a speaker for two terms in which he led key legislative reforms, including the introduction of undercover wearing, the passing of a tort reform, and the defusing of planned parenthood – making Ohio the first state to do so.

In 2004, the federal government investigated householders and several top advisors for alleged money laundering and irregular campaign practices. The government closed the case without charge. It was limited in 2004. Householder later served as the Perry County Auditor.

His Return to the Ohio House of Representatives

When incumbent Bill Hayes ran for the Licking County Attorney in 2016, Householder ran for his old seat, which was renamed District 72 after a redistribution. The head of household defeated Cliff N. Biggers in the Republican primary with almost 64% of the vote.

He won the general election against Democrat John Carlisle with 72% of the vote. As a former spokesman, Householder became a new legislator along with former Ohio Senate President Keith Faber. On January 7, 2019, a bipartisan majority of legislators elected him to act as spokesman for the Ohio House again.

Controversy over library programming

In May 2019, Householder criticized the Ohio Library Council and Newark Library in Licking County for hosting an event for young people in the LGBTQ community at the expense of taxpayers.

In response, the Newark Ohio Pride Coalition made a formal statement stating that its organization paid for the event with a non-government grant. Later that evening, the Newark Library canceled the event. The Newark Ohio Pride Coalition found a new place for it.

Larry Householder Arrest

On July 21, 2020, the FBI arrested householders and four others in connection with a $ 60 million bribe that financially saved FirstEnergy’s two nuclear power plants in Ohio, Davis-Besse and Perry. US lawyer David M. DeVillers called it “probably the largest bribery program ever conducted against the state of Ohio.”

The latest investigation, which was set out in Tuesday’s unsealed federal documents, suggests that householders provided a political solution to FirstEnergy’s financial problems. In the 82-page complaint and affidavit, the investigators stated that the relationship between householder and energy giant in the Midwest was a kind of exchange: Householder would enable FirstEnergy to save nuclear power plants and finance the election of householder as spokesman for the house Complaint.

After FirstEnergy’s money helped achieve election victories for candidates who would support Householder’s offer to the spokesperson, the spokesman used his political power to collect support for HB6, a bill that two of FirstEnergy’s nuclear power plants save and coordinate the government’s defeat would petition for a referendum.

According to the complaint, Householder directly influenced the members of the General Assembly and then helped coordinate positive media for those who supported his goals. The day after he was elected spokesman, he promised to set up a permanent subcommittee on power generation, according to the complaint.

In a text exchange, Householder asked if the team was using Generation Now funds to place positive ads for a representative.
