Tamar Estine Braxton was born on March 17, 1977 and is an American singer, actress and television personality.

Braxton started her career in 1990 as a founding member of The Braxtons, an R&B vocal group founded with her sisters. The Braxtons released their debut album So Many Ways as a trio in 1996 and soon disbanded.

Tamar Estine Braxton was born on March 17, 1977 in Severn, Maryland, to Michael and Evelyn Braxton. As the youngest of the six children of the Braxtons, Braxton started singing as a toddler.

The Braxton children would eventually join their church choir, where their father Michael Braxton was a pastor. She and her sisters Toni, Traci, Towanda and Trina signed their first record deal with Arista Records in 1989.

In 1990 they released their first single “Good Life”. “Good Life” was unsuccessful and only reached 79th place on the Billboard Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Singles table. At the time of the release of the single, the age differences between members caused a marketing problem. Then the Braxtons were deleted by Arista Records.

During a showcase with L.A. Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, who were in the process of founding LaFace Records, Toni Braxton was selected without her four sisters in 1991 as the label’s first female solo artist and signed on.

In October 2017, Braxton filed for divorce from Herbert, citing “irreconcilable differences” and joint custody of her son. Her divorce was completed in July 2019.

In an episode of The Real, Braxton revealed that she suffered from vitiligo. On November 10, 2015, Braxton discovered that she had multiple pulmonary embolisms in the lungs. The illness forced her to stopped her appearance with the show Dancing with the Stars.
