Suspect involved in the stabbing incident in New York City arrested with blood all over him ‘ at the Hanukkah celebration, source says.

 

The suspect, who was  involved in a stabbing  row during a Hanukkah celebration in a New York rabbi monastery, was found with “blood all over him,” a law enforcement officer with direct knowledge of the case, told CNN on Sunday.

Grafton Thomas was driving a Nissan Sentra across the George Washington Bridge to New York City when his car was caught by a license plate reader at around 11:45 p.m.Saturday, the authorities said.

The police arrested Thomas without incident after midnight, a spokeswoman for the New York City Police Department CNN said on the previous Sunday.Ramapo officials picked him up and transported him to the hinterland, the spokeswoman said.Monsey is a hamlet in Ramapo.

Thomas, who is from Greenwood Lake, about 40 minutes’ drive of northwest of Monsey, was charged on Sunday for five attempted murders and a first degree break-in, Brad Weidel, Ramapo’s chief of police, told reporters.

Thomas was carried in handcuffs to the courthouse wearing a white jumpsuit. During the trial, he kept his eyes on the floor and said nothing audible, referring only to his counsel.

The trial was observed from the gallery by a group of Orthodox Jews.
Thomas made a plea that was not guilty. His next appearance at the court is on Friday.

Rockland County Senior District Attorney Michael Dugandzic said Thomas had no links with the community during the bail proceedings. The prosecutor also said that one of the victims had a skull fracture and suspect had blood stains on his clothing when the police stopped Thomas and his clothing smelled strong in bleach.

The Rabbi’s son among victims of Five people who were taken to hospitals in the area after the suspect stormed the New York city Hanukkah celebration and, according to police and witnessed the stabbing incident.

The victims are hasidic Jews, the Hudson Valley Region’s Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council said in a statement. Board co-founder Yossi Gestetner told CNN that two people are in critical condition.

One of the victims is Rabbi Chaim Rottenberg’s son, at whose home the attack unfolded, and another victim has suffered severe head wounds, said Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The son of the rabbi recovered, he said.
