Famous Nigerian artist Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike (born October 9, 1986), known for his stage name Phyno, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer people.

He began his career as a music producer in 2003. He is known for his rap in Igbo. His first studio album, No Guts No Glory, was released in 2014. It produced the singles “Ghost Mode”, “Person of the Year”, “Parcel” and “O Set”. As a producer, he has worked with Timaya, Flavour, Ruggedman, Bracket, J. Martins collaborates with artists such as Raw.

Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike was born and raised in Enam State, although phyno is from Anambra State. His stage name “Phyno” is derived from the word “phenomenon”, a nickname given to him by one of his middle school friends, Emeka. Phyno became interested in music production in middle school.

He initially wanted to be a pilot, but was told he could be a doctor. Throughout high school, phyno learned to play drums and piano. phyno also learned to make his own deduction for each record he heard.

Phyno studied public administration at Enugu’s School of Management Technology, and started profiting from music in his second year at IMT. Phyno told Ifeoma Onoye that Mr Raw was one of the few people he admired. Phyno started raping in 2010 and moved to Lagos to continue his music career.

No Guts No Glory, Studio Album 

He started recording his first studio album, No Guts No Glory, in 2012. Guests on the album include Stormrex, Omawumi, Olamide, Efa, P-Square, Timaya, Flavour N’abania, Mr. Raw, MI, Ice Prince and Runtown. It is mainly recorded in Igbo and Nigeria’s Pidgin. On September 25, 2012, phyno released “Ghost Mode” as the album’s lead single.

This song features Olamide. It won the Best Collaboration Award at both The Headies Awards 2012 and the Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2013. The music video for “Ghost Mode” was released on December 7, 2012. The video was filmed and directed by Clarence Peters in Lagos.

Sputnet Records released the album’s second single “Obago” on March 23, 2013. This song produced by Phyno won the Best Rap Single category in The Headies Awards in 2012. The music video of “Obago of the Year” was uploaded to YouTube on August 20, 2013. It was also filmed and directed by Peters in Abakpa Nike, and its appearance comes from Illbliss.

The third single from the album, “Parcel”, was released on October 11, 2013. The song was originally called “Parcel (a BIG Nwa)”. The music video for “Parcel” was shot by Peters and released on February 19, 2014. On March 4, 2014, “O Set” was announced as the fourth single of the album. The song was produced by WizzyPro and comes with P-Square.

The music video of the song is directed by Jude Engees Okoye. On May 22, 2014, Phyno released the “Alobam” music video directed by Peters. The song is in Igbo for “My Guy” and was produced by Major Bangz.

On September 2, 2014, Phyno and Flavor N’abania released visual effects directed by Peter in his “Authen (Authentic)” song. On October 7, 2014, Phyno released “Yayo” produced by Major Bangz.

This song ranked 8th on the Pulse Music Video chart. The music video for this song was directed by Peters and premiered on January 5, 2015. Opeoluwani Akintayo of the Nigerian Daily Times rated the video as 8 of 10 stars and praised the use of props.

Phyno and Olamide’s 2 Kings album was released on April 1, 2015. Both rappers announced plans for the album via social media in January 2014.

In June 2013, as part of the Star Trek tour, he performed for 25 minutes in Owerri. Phyno toured with D’banj, Burna Boy, Chidinma, Vector, Pucado, Seyi Shay, Show Dem Camp, Kay Switch and Sean Tizzle as an auxiliary performance for the Hennessy Artistry 2013 Club Tour. In April 2014, he was on a Star Trek trip in Nsukka, Enugu in 2014.

Phyno told the Nigerian Tribune that he raped in Igbo because he respected his culture and loved himself. Although he mainly raps at Igbo, he combines Nigerian Pingin and English in his music. Phyno believes that the element of music makes it borderless.
