Head of French golf major skeptical about Ryder Cup effect


EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — The head of France’s solely golf major says internet hosting the Ryder Cup will not help his nation produce a star player.

Asked at an eve-of-tournament information convention Wednesday about a stellar month for French golf, Evian Championship chairman Franck Riboud dismissed what the Ryder Cup could obtain when it is performed Sept. 28-30 close to Paris.

The 12-man Europe team has no French players.

The former chief government of Danone says the meals large didn’t sponsor the Ryder Cup as a result of the occasion “is not building or helping to reach the objective” of growing expertise.

Riboud says: “We need a (French) champion, that’s all. So to do that we need a plan.”

He says the impact of Tiger Woods enjoying in France has much less effect than finding an equally proficient French champion.
