George Floyd Cause of Death Killer: Police officer charged, Wife Divorce him.
A former Minneapolis police officer was arrested and charged with murder after an unarmed black man died in custody. Derek Chauvin, who is white, was featured on Monday kneeling on the neck of 46-year-old George Floyd. He and three other officers were released.
Looting and arson days in the city of Minnesota have turned into nationwide protests. The case rekindled the United States’ anger over the police killing black Americans.
What did the prosecutor say?
Hennepin County prosecutor Mike Freeman said Mr. Chauvin was charged with third degree murder and second degree manslaughter.
He said he “anticipated charges” for the other three officers, but would not offer any further details.
Mr. Freeman said his office “sued this case as soon as evidence was presented to us.”
“This is by far the fastest we’ve ever accused a police officer of,” he said.
According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Chauvin acted with “a corrupt mind, regardless of human life.”
What’s the latest about the protests?
The White House was closed on Friday evening after a protest outside. “I can’t breathe,” protesters said, referring to the last words of Mr. Floyd and Eric Garner, a black man who died after being detained in a New York police chokehold in 2014.
The closure ended around 8:30 p.m. EDT (12:30 a.m. GMT on Saturday) when U.S. intelligence opened the building’s entrances and exits to employees.
In the meantime, curfews have been ordered for the twin cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings.

A police station was set on fire on Thursday, the third night of the protests against Floyd’s death. A number of buildings have been burned, looted, and destroyed in recent days, resulting in the activation of the state’s National Guard troops.
There were also demonstrations elsewhere, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Louisville, Phoenix, Columbus and Memphis.
Frustration over the recent death of two other black Americans, Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia and Breonna Taylor, has already subsided.
George Floyd Cause of Death: – How did George Floyd die?
The full County Medical Examiner report has not been published, but the complaint states that the autopsy showed no evidence of “traumatic asphyxia or strangulation.”
The autopsy report found that Mr. Floyd had underlying heart conditions and the combination of these “potential intoxicants in his system” and was held back by officials “who were likely to have contributed to his death”.
The report says that Mr. Chauvin had his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds – almost three minutes after Mr. Floyd stopped responding.

Almost two minutes before he removed his knee, the other officers checked Mr. Floyd’s right wrist for a pulse and could not find one. He was brought to Hennepin County Medical Center in an ambulance and pronounced dead about an hour later.
The Minnesota Police Handbook states that officers trained to compress a prisoner’s neck without exerting direct pressure on the airways can use one knee as part of his or her violence policy. This is considered a non-lethal option.
George Floyd Killer: Police wife announces she’s divorcing him
Kellie Chauvin, the wife of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, said that after 10 years of marriage, she is applying for divorce.
In a statement from her lawyer, Kellie Chauvin said she was devastated when 46-year-old George Floyd, who died in police custody earlier this week, was killed.

Kellie Chauvin’s lawyer said she applied for divorce because of this week’s incident.
Derek Chauvin is charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter after a video has appeared in which he kneeled on Floyd’s neck for more than 8 1/2 minutes while asking for his life.
What did Trump say?
At the White House on Friday, President Donald Trump called the incident “a terrible, terrible thing” and said he had spoken to Mr. Floyd’s family, whom he described as “great people.”
He said he asked the Justice Department to speed up an investigation announced on Friday whether civil rights laws had been violated when Mr. Floyd died.
The president also said, “Looters shouldn’t drown out the voices of so many peaceful demonstrators.”
Previously, he described the rioters as “thugs” who dishonored Mr. Floyd’s memory.
The social media network Twitter accused Mr. Trump of having glorified violence in a post that said, “When the looting begins, the shootings begin.”
What is the reaction?
Mr. Floyd’s family and lawyer Benjamin Crump said the arrest was “welcome but overdue”.
The family said they wanted a more serious first-degree murder charge and the arrest of the other officers involved.
In the statement, the city was asked to change its police work: “Today George Floyd’s family has to explain to his children why their father was executed on video by the police.”
Former President Barack Obama also said, “This should not be ‘normal’ in America in 2020.”
His statement added: “If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives up to their highest ideals, we can and must be better.”
Minnesota governor Tim Walz said the arrest was “a good first step towards justice”.
What Happened to the Arrest?
The officers suspected that Mr. Floyd had used a fake $ 20 bill and tried to put him in a police vehicle when he fell to the ground, and told them he was claustrophobic.
According to the police, he physically opposed the officers and was handcuffed.
The video of the incident doesn’t show how the confrontation started, but a white officer can be seen with his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck, who is holding him.
You hear Mr. Floyd say “Please, I can’t breathe” and “Don’t kill me”.
A former local nightclub owner said that until last year, Mr. Chauvin and Mr. Floyd both worked as bouncers at their venue in South Minneapolis, although it is unclear whether they knew each other.
