Patience Jonathan Hotel to become a place of isolation centre for coronavirus agents.

The First Lady, through her pet project, the Future Assurance Program, made separate agreements with Mrs. Jonathan and the Ministry of Health to convert the hotel into a COVID-19 treatment center.

 

Who is Patience Jonathan?

Dame Patience Faka Jonathan was born on 25 October 1957. She is a former First Lady of Nigeria and wife of the former Bayelsa State Governor and also former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan. She also served as Permanent Secretary to her home state in Bayelsa.

Mrs. Buhari proposed to the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, to make sure he equip the treatment centre up to international standard.

Although the hotel will be formally handed over to the Health Minister on Monday, it will be managed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) COVID-19 committee.

The Future Assurance Program provides facilities such as water, furniture, bedding, modern health equipment and equipment used to manage COVID-19 outbreaks.

It was concluded that the “deal” between the First Lady and her predecessor had been struck at a recent meeting by the duo at the Presidential Villa.

A source quoted Mrs Jonathan as saying: “This is the time when we all have to come together, regardless of political differences, to help this nation fight the pandemic. It’s time to push politics aside.

“I will do everything to help this great country which has also given me the opportunity to serve.”

An investigation revealed that the First Lady had decided to cooperate with Mrs. Jonathan to avoid the Future Assurance Program running into any legal crisis.

A high-profile source added: “As the dispute over the property was still in court, the First Lady chose to seek Mrs.’s. Patience Jonathan consent on temporary use of the massive hotel facility. This mutual understanding has removed all legal barriers.

“After the nation has overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel will be handed over to the Federal Ministry of Health, which in turn will return to the EFCC.

“All existing agreements are without prejudice to the court’s final decision on the property, which the First Lady says belongs to a separate entity, the Aurora Foundation.”

Around 1.15pm on Sunday, about 30 workers were seen giving final touches to the center.

A 20 man team of mobile policemen were on alert to secure the sophisticated equipment already installed at the new coronavirus centre.

A source said: “It’s a five-storey hotel that can be upgraded into 300 bedrooms. But so far, we have installed the ground floor and three out of the other five floors.

“As all things being equal, the hotel will be handed over on Monday by the First Lady. We have been working day and night on this project.

When asked to be specific on the cost of upgrading the hotel to a medical center for COVID-19, the source added: “Only the First Lady and the Future Assurance Program could account for that. ”

The hotel is located in a valley in the Mabushi part of Abuja, off the ever busy Mabushi Kado Expressway.

According to the description of Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), an agency under the Federal Capital Administration, the property is located at Plot No. 1758, Cadastral Zone, B06 Mabushi, and Plot No. 1350, Cadastral Zone, Business District Central A00.

 

Being a reconstructed area, the five-storey hotel is unique with its ash-colored paint.

It is easily noticed by shoppers taking the route to one of the largest shopping malls in Abuja, the Jabi Lake Mall.

Less than two kilometers to Lake Jabi, the evening breeze from the lake provides an added atmosphere to the facility.
