Trump tells Iran: the US has targeted ‘ 52 Iranian sites ‘ and, if needed, will ‘ strike very quickly and very hard ‘

Saturday, President Trump issued a stern warning to Iran through a series of tweets to prevent the nation from retaliating after the U.S.-ordered airstrike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani on Thursday.

“Iran talks very frankly about attacking all U.S. properties as retaliation for our ridding the world of their terrorist leader who had just killed an American and wounded many others, not to mention all the people he killed over his lifetime, including hundreds of Iranian demonstrators recently,” Trump tweeted.

Soleimani, the commander of the elite Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed in an air strike in Iraq ordered by President Trump on Thursday.

“Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran attacks any American or American properties, we have targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages that Iran took many years ago), some of them at a very high level and important to Iran and Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD,” Trump said Saturday, explicitly stating that the US will respond if it does so.

Upon Soleimani’s assassination, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said “strong vengeance awaits the criminals whose dirty hands spilled his blood.” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani vowed to “take revenge for this horrific crime.” Iranian-backed militias formed in Iraq, known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), were quick to threaten U.S.
